Feature about the 90 Years Anniversary of the Band Club
Maltese Version Only

1st August - Feast of the Annunciation in Balzan 2010.
A breath of satisfaction on every supporter was evident at the end of the last tunes by the St. Gabriel Band.  This was due to the great and well organized feast dedicated to Our Lady of Annunciation.

Yes…another absolute success…an excellent atmosphere…a fantastic feast!  The internal celebrations held in the Parish Church were dominated by the Family Nani music named Spiritus Sanctus and Gabriele Angelus.  Well done goes to the Marija Annunzjata Choir headed by Mr. Lawrence Scicluna, Parish Priest Rev. Fr. C. Vassallo and finally to Sacristan Valent Chetcuti and his team for their dedication in decorating the Parish Church.  One has to notice that lots of feast enthusiasts visited our feast to see our marvelous decorated church.

Wednesday 28th June 2010 was another important date for the St. Gabriel Band as in a mass band with the Annunciation Band accompanied Fr. Rev. Blake Camilleri for his Prima Messa (first mass).

The external celebrations complemented the internal celebrations.  The St. Gabriel Band did its first participation on Monday 26th June 2010 when the statue of the Annunciation came out of the niche.  Thursday 29th July, the St. Gabriel Band under the direction of Bandmaster Director Mro. Joseph Vella had the Annual Musical Concert.  What a success!  The climax was when the St Gabriel Band included John Miles MUSIC which was accompanied by fireworks, popular singer Ludwig Galea and a group of youths supervised by Michelle Spiteri and Helen Micallef clapped with the rhythm of John Miles MUSIC.

The much awaited Friday’s band march was on.  Just after midnight, the statue of Angel Gabriel was put on the 7m high platform.  In the meantime, loads of surprises took place…a huge banner and a Presentation regarding the 90 years of activities.  This was greatly appreciated from the crowd.

On Saturday, the St. Helen Band of B’Kara had a musical service in the upper part of the village.  Then it was time for ground fireworks.  A great show!  Then it was Sunday.  The Stella Maris Band of Sliema welcomed the statue of the Annunciation with the Ave Maria hymns accompanied by tenor Andrew Sapiano.  Then it was a spectacular scene as fireworks were on, colourful poppers while balloons were up in sky.  Singers Malcolm Camilleri and popular singers Renato and his sister Helen Micallef sang the Ave Maria, the young Michaela Agius and tenor Elia Cassar sang the Ave Maria when the statue was next to the church.  Fireworks were lit as the statue was back in church.

What a great feast!  The Net TV Programme FORCINA showed what a great feast Hal Balzan organized.  This was due to a united effort by the villagers.  Thanks to everyone!  See next year 2011.

19th March - Another dream comes true for the St. Gabriel Band.
After 40 years (1970), the St Gabriel Band returned to Villa Macedonia in Sisner Street, Hal Balzan with a musical programme.  It was the Villa Macedonia area that the St Gabriel Band did its first appearance on the 23th March 1952.  The Villa Macedonia belonged to the late Noble Count Bernardo Manduca Piscopo Macedonia Zamitt (1891-1971), a philanthropist and benefactor of the St Gabriel Band Club, the Parish Church and the people of Hal Balzan.

Today the Villa Madeconia is the official residence of the Spanish Ambassador.  The Hal Balzan Local Council organized the ‘Garden Days’ (Jiem il-Gonna).  The Spanish Ambassador H.E. Maria Isabel Vicendi Plaza hosted a Musical Concert by the St. Gabriel Band in Villa Macedonia.
